Rapper Nelly found himself at the center of controversy after performing at the inaugural Liberty Ball, an event many interpreted as politically charged. As criticism mounted across social media platforms, the hip-hop veteran took to the comment section of The Shade Room to address the backlash head-on. His response was direct affirming that he has never publicly endorsed any U.S. president and insists his appearance was not politically motivated.

“I have never endorsed ANY president in my life,” Nelly commented, pushing back against accusations that his performance at the event signified support for a specific political figure or agenda. “This was not a political endorsement. I was booked for a performance. That’s it.” He made it clear that, for him, the stage is a professional space, not a podium for political declarations.

Amid the online storm, fans and critics alike questioned the optics of his appearance, especially considering the broader political undertones attached to the event. Some accused him of betraying the values of the hip-hop community, which has historically been wary of political affiliations that seem out of step with its roots.

Nelly didn’t stop at defending himself, he also stepped in to support longtime friend and fellow rapper Snoop Dogg, who had received similar criticism. “Snoop and I have done more for the community than half the people talking,” Nelly stated firmly. “We been out here for 20-plus years giving back—school drives, community centers, scholarships, you name it.”

He concluded by writing, “I did not campaign for anyone. I do not tell people who to vote for. I respect and love our country from top to bottom, good and bad… and I am very aware that it’s a lot of things in this country that we need to work on the right is too far right and the left is too far left.”

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson has been accused of rape, including "sexual, physical, emotional and financial" abuse. Derek Dixon, best known for playing Dale on The Oval, has broken his silence after filing a $260 million lawsuit against filmmaker Tyler Perry, alleging sexual harassment, assault and retaliation. In his first public comments, Dixon revealed that he has received death threats since coming forward, further highlighting the challenges faced by male victims. “This is why people, especially men, don’t come forward,” Dixon said. “I was too afraid to come forward. I knew it would be awful. And I was right.”
