Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs is set for the next chapter of his NFL career after agreeing to join the Washington Commanders on a one-year contract, according to multiple reports.
The deal, reportedly worth up to $12 million, will bring the 32-year-old back to his home state of Maryland. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter were among the first to report the agreement.
Diggs arrived in Washington following a single season with the New England Patriots, where he remained one of the team's most productive offensive players. During the 2025 campaign, he recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns, according to official NFL statistics.
The Commanders will become the fifth team of Diggs' NFL career. Before joining New England, he spent the 2024 season with the Houston Texans after four successful years with the Buffalo Bills. He began his professional career with the Minnesota Vikings, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
While Diggs continued to perform on the field last season, his time in New England was also marked by several off-field developments. Earlier this year, he faced assault allegations involving former employee Mila Adams. In May, he was found not guilty of charges related to assault and strangulation.
The receiver also attracted public attention for his relationship with rapper Cardi B. The couple welcomed a son in November 2025 and have reportedly experienced an on-and-off relationship in recent months.
Despite the speculation surrounding Diggs' future, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel suggested in June that the possibility of bringing the veteran receiver back had not been completely ruled out.
"I wouldn't say anything is off the table," Vrabel said at the time. "We would want to add anybody that could help us. I'm not going to give a percentage on it, but I think we're happy with where we're at right now with the numbers and the people in the receiver room."
New England has since strengthened its receiving corps during the offseason. The defending AFC champions signed former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs in free agency and later acquired A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in June.
With Washington, Diggs will look to make an immediate impact as he enters his 12th NFL season. The Commanders hope his experience, leadership and consistent production will provide a major boost to their offense as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
