The Minnesota Vikings have led tributes to wide receiver Rondale Moore after the 25-year-old was found dead at his home in New Albany, Indiana.
Police were called to the property on Saturday evening, where Moore was discovered unresponsive in a garage. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the death is being investigated as a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy is scheduled as inquiries continue.
In a statement, the Vikings said they were "deeply saddened" by the passing of their teammate and confirmed they had spoken with Moore's family to offer condolences and support. The franchise added that counselling and emotional support services would be made available to players, coaches and staff.
"While we are working to understand the facts, our thoughts are with Rondale's family and friends during this devastating time," the team said.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell described Moore as "a humble, soft-spoken and respectful young man" who was proud of his Indiana roots. He added that the organisation was heartbroken that Moore would not have the opportunity to continue pursuing his NFL dream.
Born on 9 June 2000, Moore rose to prominence at Purdue University, where he enjoyed a record-breaking freshman season in 2018, tallying 114 receptions for 1,258 yards and 12 touchdowns while setting a school mark for all-purpose yardage.
He was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals and spent three seasons in Arizona, recording 135 catches for 1,201 yards. A trade to the Atlanta Falcons followed in 2024, but a knee injury during training camp ruled him out for the season. He signed with Minnesota in 2025, though injuries again limited his time on the field.
Former teammate J. J. Watt wrote on social media: "Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give. Rest in peace Rondale."
