Dwight Howard, a former NBA star, and his wife Amber Rose Howard are ending their marriage after just six months. Court records obtained by PEOPLE confirm that Amber, who also goes by the name Amy Luciani in her music career, filed for divorce on Tuesday, July 1, in Georgia. She
stated in the filing that the marriage is “irretrievably broken” and there is “no prospect for reconciliation.”

The following day, a mutual restraining order that both parties had initially agreed to on January 2, 2025, was officially filed in court.

Amber has requested that all marital property and assets be divided equally between her and Howard. She is also asking the court for alimony. The divorce filing comes shortly after Howard shared his grief on social media over the death of his dog, who was killed in a hit-and-run incident. He referred to the loss as "heartless" andexpressed deep sorrow for the passing of his pet.

The couple were married on January 11, 2025. They were last seen publicly together in December 2024 at a special screening for "Den of Thieves 2: Pantera" in Atlanta. At the event, they posed together on the red carpet alongside other stars, including Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr.

Howard, who now plays for the L.A. Riot in Ice Cube’s Big3 League, was recently seen vacationing in Jamaica, according to a post he shared on Instagram. His team is currently on a break before returning to action on July 13.

In June, Howard was involved in an on-court altercation with former NBA player Lance Stephenson. The scuffle led to both players being ejected from the Big3 season opener after the confrontation spilled into the crowd.

Two weeks after the incident, Howard posted a heartfelt tribute to his late dog on Instagram. He called the dog his “protector” and expressed his devastation at losing her. In his message, he wrote about the close bond they shared and the pain of losing her in such a tragic way.

Howard, who won an NBA championship with the Lakers in 2020, also played in Taiwan from 2022 to mid-2023. He has recently appeared on reality shows such as Dancing With the Stars and Special Forces.
