Charlie Kirk is being mourned across the political spectrum following his tragic death on September 10. The conservative activist, 31, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University during his American Comeback Tour.
According to university officials, Kirk was about 20 minutes into his presentation when a gunshot was fired from a building approximately 200 yards away. He was struck in the neck and rushed to the hospital, where he later died. The suspect remains at large, though one person of interest has been released after questioning.
Former President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s passing with a heartfelt tribute. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the UnitedStates of America better than Charlie,” Trump, 79, wrote on Truth Social. “He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me. Melania and my sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you! Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve Kirk, and their two young children, a three-year-old daughter and a 15-month-old son.
Donald Trump Jr. also expressed grief, writing on X, “Charlie wasn’t just a friend, he was like a little brother to me and to millions around the world. His character and conviction were rare. To think his life was cut short by such an evil act is beyond comprehension.”
Others condemned the violence, including former President Barack Obama. “We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk,” Obama wrote on X. “But this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight.” Rosie O’Donnell, who has long been outspoken against political violence, posted on Instagram, “No just no, do not become the murderer. This is wrong on every level.”
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel also offered condolences, calling the act “monstrous” and sending love to “all the innocents who fall victim to senseless violence.” As the investigation continues, tributes continue to pour in for Kirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA and was known for his passionate work with young conservatives. His death leaves a void in political activism and a family mourning a husband and father taken too soon.
