Jaafar Jackson has spoken about the possibility of a sequel to Michael, the biopic in which he portrays his late uncle, music legend Michael Jackson.

Speaking to Variety, the 30-year-old actor was asked what he would tell people who want a potential second film to address the allegations and controversies surrounding the singer. Jaafar encouraged audiences to learn about his uncle through his music, writings and humanitarian work.

"Finding out who Michael was is in his music," Jaafar said. He also pointed to the singer's lyrics, poetry, music videos, public speeches and university appearances as ways to understand his life and beliefs.

Jaafar further highlighted Michael's charitable activities, including his visits to other countries and interactions with children, as important aspects of the singer's legacy.

When asked whether a sequel would address the controversies, Jaafar said he could not confirm what the next film might cover, explaining that the decision was not his to make.

"My job is to come prepared and deliver the best performance I can. But to know Michael, it starts with the music," he said.

The actor added that he had not received any concrete information about a sequel. However, he expressed his readiness to reprise the role if the project receives approval.

Michael Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50. In 1993, he faced allegations of sexual abuse involving 13-year-old Jordan Chandler, which led to an out-of-court settlement reportedly worth $25 million. The singer subsequently faced further allegations of grooming and sexual abuse of minors. Michael and his family denied the allegations.

Jaafar previously discussed the possibility of addressing the controversies in a second film during an August interview with GQ Middle East. He said he hoped a sequel would provide greater insight into the singer's perspective, noting that much of the public narrative surrounding the allegations had been shaped by other people.

He also argued that allowing Michael's voice to be heard was important to his family, particularly when telling the story of the singer's later years.

The first instalment of Michael, released on April 24, explores the singer's early life and rise to global superstardom.

The film achieved significant commercial success, earning $314 million during its debut weekend before surpassing $1 billion at the global box office in less than three months. It became Lionsgate's highest-grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing biopic ever.

Despite its success, questions remain about whether a sequel will explore the controversies that were not covered in the first film.
