Sean "Diddy" Combs reportedly suffered a head injury during a physical altercation with fellow inmate Christopher Coke, a convicted Jamaican drug lord known as "Dudus," at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
According to TMZ, multiple sources said the two men fought last Friday, October 9, with Coke reportedly getting the upper hand. The alleged altercation came after a report exposed claims that Combs had been enjoying special privileges behind bars, including access to a cellphone, alcohol and other contraband.
Combs, 56, was taken from the prison to a local hospital early Saturday, October 10, after suffering the injury. A source told PEOPLE that his condition was not considered life-threatening and that he returned to the facility later that day. He was subsequently placed back in solitary confinement.
The circumstances surrounding the injury had initially remained unclear. Page Six previously reported that Combs had hit his head on a bunk bed, but the latest reports suggest the injury may have resulted from a fight.
The alleged confrontation was reportedly fueled by anger among inmates over the NBC News report detailing Combs' purportedly comfortable prison conditions. Following the report, prison officials conducted raids and confiscated cellphones, including devices allegedly belonging to Coke and other inmates.
TMZ reported that Coke, who has been incarcerated since 2012 and is serving a 23-year sentence, was also placed in solitary confinement for two weeks following the incident. The outlet further reported that the fight occurred during Combs' daily break while he was being held in the prison's Special Housing Unit.
Combs' representative addressed the hospitalization in a statement to PEOPLE, saying, "Sean's health and well-being are our immediate concern, and we appreciate everyone who has reached out."
Combs is serving a 50-month prison sentence after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
The music mogul, who was arrested in 2024, is currently scheduled for release on March 2, 2028.
