Yung Miami is celebrating the success of her latest single, "Spend Dat," saying she had no doubts the track would connect with listeners from the moment she recorded it.
Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet at the 2026 BET Awards on Sunday, June 28, the rapper reflected on creating the song and the confidence she had in its potential.
"I just loved the energy, the beat and the feeling it gave me," said the 32-year-old artist, born Caresha Brownlee. She explained that the instrumental immediately got her moving and inspired confidence that the record would resonate with fans.
"When I recorded that song, I said that this song is going to be a song that resonates with people, and I was right," she said. "I feel just so happy seeing everybody love the song."
Asked whether she expected "Spend Dat" to become one of this summer's biggest tracks, Yung Miami responded confidently, saying she always believed it would.
The rapper also took the stage during the BET Awards to present the BET HER Award, which was won by Doechii and SZA. As she walked onstage, the audience broke into a singalong of "Spend Dat," a moment captured in a video shared by BET. The network later referred to the song as the summer anthem in the caption accompanying the clip.
Released in April, "Spend Dat" has become the highest-charting solo single of Yung Miami's career on the Billboard Hot 100. In June, she shared an emotional Instagram video celebrating the milestone after the song reached No. 66, describing herself as speechless and overwhelmed with happiness.
Shortly after the single was released, the rapper revealed on Instagram that recording "Spend Dat" was one of her favorite studio experiences, highlighting the excitement she felt throughout the creative process.
Yung Miami first rose to fame as one half of the rap duo City Girls alongside JT. Following the release of their 2023 album RAW, the pair pursued separate careers, with Yung Miami now preparing to release her debut solo album.
Earlier this year, the rapper also addressed the professional challenges she faced after publicly supporting her former partner, Sean "Diddy" Combs, during the sexual assault allegations against him. Speaking on The Breakfast Club in March, she said her loyalty cost her business deals, income and relationships, while maintaining that she could only judge him based on her personal experiences during their relationship.
