Cardi B has spoken out after Latto confirmed her new track Gimme Dat references their fallout over a leaked phone call last September.
During an interview on The Breakfast Club on June 4, Latto explained that the lyric about Cardi was inspired by their strained friendship. Hours later, Cardi posted a lengthy response on X, saying she understood Latto's feelings and wanted to clarify her side.
"I truly understand how you feel...and that's exactly why I chose to apologize publicly because the disrespect became public. On that call I didn't even mean to call you that, I didn't mean any harm.. There's a difference in what I said vs what I meant," she wrote.
Cardi admitted she let her emotions get the best of her. "What I could have said was you was too forgiving and gave too much mercy in that situation. But it was a heated conversation and I let my mouth get the best of me," she explained, adding that she was overwhelmed at the time, but stressed that wasn't an excuse.
The leaked call to Ice Spice's manager James Rosemond Jr. featured Cardi making disparaging remarks about Latto, which quickly spread online just days after the two had collaborated on ErrTime (Remix). The fallout was immediate, and Cardi moved fast to issue a public apology.
She admitted she had been ranting in the heat of the moment, stressed by her pregnancy and the release of her album, and said she respected Latto and her team. To show she wasn't too prideful to own up, she posted a message apologizing to Latto and even promised to make amends privately with a gift.
Latto later addressed Cardi's offer in her track Gimme Dat, making a reference to the situation in her lyrics. During her appearance on The Breakfast Club, she confirmed the line was directed at Cardi and explained that she had once viewed her as a friend.
"It's someone I deadass looked at as a friend... we was on a texting basis. So I feel like, 'Yeah, you tweeted to the world, but we got each other number.'" She added that while Cardi eventually texted her, she had already moved on. "I'm open to the conversation. When? I don't know cause I got a baby now, life done kept moving."
Both rappers were pregnant at the time of the fallout. Cardi welcomed her son with Stefon Diggs in November 2025, while Latto recently gave birth to her daughter with 21 Savage.
