Britney Spears has formally accepted responsibility in her driving under the influence case, reaching a plea agreement that reduces the severity of the original charge. Appearing through her attorney, Spears entered a guilty plea to reckless driving.

involving alcohol, commonly referred to as a "wet reckless," during proceedings held on May 4 in Ventura County. The pop star, 44, was not present in court for the arraignment, which followed her March 4 arrest after authorities alleged she had been driving at high speed in an erratic manner.

Under the terms of the agreement, Spears has been placed on 12 months of summary probation. She was also fined and ordered to complete a three-month DUI education program, which includes approximately 30 hours of coursework. Time served has been credited toward a brief custodial sentence.

In addition to legal penalties, Spears will continue a structured treatment plan. This includes regular sessions with a psychologist and twice-monthly visits with a psychiatrist, as part of an effort to address both mental health and substance use concerns.

Her attorney said in a statement that Spears has taken accountability early in the process and is committed to making meaningful changes. Prosecutors echoed that sentiment, noting that her cooperation and lack of prior offenses contributed to the
reduced charge.

Officials previously indicated that cases involving no injuries, no collisions and low blood alcohol levels are often eligible for such plea arrangements.

Days before the hearing, Spears had exited a rehabilitation facility she voluntarily entered weeks earlier. Representatives described the incident as serious, adding that the singer intends to comply fully with legal requirements.

Sources close to the situation say her family, particularly her two sons, encouraged her
to seek help and prioritize her well-being during this period.
