Pop singer Jason Derulo has publicly broken his silence regarding the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him by aspiring artist Emaza Dilan (also known as Emaza Gibson), a case that was dismissed twice in different jurisdictions before being refiled in a third. In a recent interview, Derulo described the ordeal as highly damaging to his career and reputation, directly linking it to significant financial and professional losses.

The lawsuit, originally filed in October 2023, alleged that Derulo sexually harassed Dilan, made her success contingent on engaging in sexual acts and retaliated against her when she refused his advances, leading to the termination of her contract. Among the more bizarre claims cited in the complaint was an allegation that Derulo told Dilan she would need to participate in a “sexual ritual” involving “goat skin and fish scales,” a claim Derulo has vehemently denied.

The case was Initially filed in a Los Angeles court but was dismissed after a judge ruled in April 2024 that the artist agreements Dilan signed stipulated that all legal disputes must be heard in New York courts under New York law. It was dismissed a second time after being filed in Nevada and was subsequently refiled in New York in late 2025.

Speaking publicly about the situation on the program In Depth with Graham Bensinger, Derulo emphasized the fact that the case had already been dismissed multiple times. He stated, “That case was dismissed twice. And I lost so many brand deals, relationships off of a story that was not even slightly believable.” He estimated the financial fallout to be in the “millions of dollars” due to the reputational damage caused by the initial allegations and the subsequent lack of public coverage regarding the dismissals.

The singer went on to make a controversial comment about changing his professional conduct, saying he would “never be alone in a room with a woman that I work with... ever, ever again,” citing the immense risk associated with unsubstantiated claims. Derulo stressed his frustration with what he viewed as unbalanced media coverage, questioning why the dismissals were not reported with the same prominence as the initial sensational allegations. Derulo had previously released a statement on Instagram in 2023 calling the initial claims “completely false and hurtful.” The refiled case in New York is still in its early stages.
