An investigative grand jury has reportedly been convened in Los Angeles County to review evidence regarding the death of teenager Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were discovered in the trunk of an impounded vehicle registered to R&B singer David Anthony Burke, known professionally as d4vd. The convening of the grand jury, which began hearings in mid-November 2025, signals a significant escalation in the highly publicized and complex investigation.

Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was 14 at the time of her disappearance, was first reported missing from Lake Elsinore in Riverside County in April 2024. Her heavily decomposed body was discovered by workers at a tow yard on September 8, 2025, inside a Tesla that had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills and impounded due to parking violations. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the remains as those of Rivas.

While the official cause and manner of death remain undetermined due to the advanced state of decomposition, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is treating the case as a potential homicide. Investigators believe Rivas may have died several weeks or even months before her body was found. Sources close to the investigation have recently identified d4vd as a suspect in the probe, with some reports alleging the singer has been uncooperative with authorities. However, no charges have been filed against anyone as of the current date.

The decision to utilize a grand jury is particularly notable as it allows prosecutors to present evidence and hear confidential testimony to determine whether criminal charges are warranted without the need for a preliminary hearing. This move comes amid intense public scrutiny and conflicting information surrounding the case, including an LAPD request for a court order to block the Medical Examiner from releasing details of the autopsy report, citing the need to protect the integrity of the ongoing murder investigation and potentially the safety of witnesses.

The grand jury's proceedings are confidential, and its outcome, whether to issue an indictment or dismiss the case, is still pending. The family and community of Celeste Rivas Hernandez continue to await answers as the investigation works to piece together the full circumstances of her tragic death.
