A former college football player, Shanoyd Whyte Jr., has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his longtime partner, popular Black transgender TikTok creator Maurice “Girlalala” Harrison. Harrison, a prominent hairstyling influencer with hundreds of thousands of followers, died on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the age of 21 in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), deputies responded to a medical call near the 3300 block of Northwest 37th Avenue where they found Harrison suffering from gunshot wounds in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. Harrison was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The suspect, 25-year-old Shanoyd Whyte Jr., was arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. BSO detectives allege that Whyte Jr. and Harrison, who had been in a relationship for several years, engaged in a verbal argument that turned physical while inside Whyte Jr.’s vehicle, during which Harrison was shot.

Investigators recovered a firearm near the scene. Furthermore, surveillance footage obtained by authorities reportedly captured the moments leading up to the shooting. The video allegedly shows Whyte Jr. exiting the driver’s side of the sedan and Harrison attempting to get out of the passenger door, only for Whyte Jr. to put her back inside the car before the fatal shot was fired. Whyte Jr. reportedly remained at the scene and flagged down deputies.

Public records indicate that Whyte Jr. is a former college football player, having played as a defensive lineman at Bethune-Cookman University. Records also reveal a history of domestic violence; Whyte Jr. was previously arrested in November 2022 for physically battering another victim, though that case was ultimately dropped when the victim declined to cooperate. Friends and relatives of Harrison have also noted that the couple's relationship was tumultuous, with old social media clips hinting at previous domestic disputes resurfacing in the wake of the tragedy.

Harrison, a hairstylist known for her vibrant personality and wig tutorials, was a beloved figure in the online community. Her tragic death has sent shockwaves through the creator community and has reignited urgent conversations about intimate-partner violence and the specific dangers faced by Black transgender women in the United States. Whyte Jr. is being held without bond.
