Ray J has mounted a legal response to a defamation suit filed by Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, unveiling a countersuit that reopens long-running disputes over the infamous early-2000s sex tape and the parties’ conduct around its release.

In the countersuit, Ray J, born William Ray Norwood Jr., says Kardashian and Jenner not only breached prior agreements but also repeatedly misrepresented the circumstances under which the tape became public. He asserts that, contrary to the Kardashians’ long-stated position that the intimate video was leaked without consent, Kardashian and Jenner actively participated in the tape’s distribution and then cultivated a public narrative that the release was unauthorized.

Ray J’s complaint recalls a settlement he says resolved the initial dispute, claiming Kim Kardashian paid him $6 million under terms that were intended to end public discussion and commercial exploitation of the footage. He alleges the agreement was short-lived since Kardashian and Jenner purportedly continued to reference the tape in public forums and media projects and at times pressured him to sign further documents that would absolve them of liability for later statements.

The countersuit also addresses remarks tied to high-profile incidents involving other public figures. Ray J contends that, after an allegation from Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, that implicated him in a sexual assault against Kardashian, he received the settlement payment and thereafter was unfairly cast as the villain in the narrative. He frames his countersuit as an attempt to correct what he describes as years of falsehoods and image-management tactics that benefited Kardashian and Jenner while silencing him.

Kardashian and Jenner initiated their own legal action earlier, accusing Ray J of making inflammatory public statements including claims that the family was under federal investigation for racketeering and seeking to hold him accountable for reputational harm. Ray J’s response reframes the dispute as primarily contractual and commercial, seeking damages for breach of agreement and a judicial declaration that would vindicate his versions of events.

Kardashian and Jenner maintain they have been defamed by Ray J’s statements, while
Ray J insists he is fighting back against what he calls orchestrated misrepresentations.
As the counterclaims and the original defamation suit move through the courts, both
parties will have the opportunity to develop and prove their versions of events under
oath.
