BAFTA-winning actress Wunmi Mosaku has joined the cast of The Social Reckoning, Sony Pictures’ upcoming drama and the long-awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2010 film The Social Network. The original movie, written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by David Fincher, became a cultural milestone for its gripping portrayal of Facebook’s founding and the conflicts that shaped the digital age.
This time, Sorkin returns to the director’s chair, both writing and helming the project, marking his first time directing a film in the Social Network universe. The Social Reckoning is described as a “companion piece” to the original rather than a direct sequel. Instead of revisiting Mark Zuckerberg’s story, the new film shifts its lens to the real-life saga of Frances Haugen, the Facebook engineer-turned-whistleblower whose revelations shook the foundations of the tech giant.
Haugen, played by Mikey Madison, partners with Jeff Horwitz — a Wall Street Journal reporter portrayed by Jeremy Allen White — to expose Facebook’s closely guarded internal practices and the ethical controversies surrounding its algorithms. Their dangerous collaboration leads to one of the most explosive whistleblower stories in modern tech history, a journey that Sorkin’s screenplay reportedly treats with the same tension and intelligence that made his earlier work an Oscar winner.
Joining Madison and White in the ensemble cast are Jeremy Strong and Bill Burr, whose roles remain under wraps. Wunmi Mosaku’s character has also not yet been revealed, but her addition adds depth and prestige to an already impressive lineup. Mosaku has earned widespread acclaim for her versatility and emotional range, recently starring as Annie, a Hoodoo priestess in Ryan Coogler’s supernatural hit Sinners, which grossed over $350 million globally. Her performance has sparked serious Supporting Actress Oscar buzz, further solidifying her reputation as one of Hollywood’s most compelling rising stars.
Mosaku’s career includes standout turns in Deadpool & Wolverine, His House, and Damilola, Our Loved Boy, the latter earning her the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress. On television, she has appeared in high-profile productions such as Loki, Lovecraft Country, We Own This City, and Black Mirror, showcasing her range across genres from sci-fi to historical drama.
Up next, Mosaku will appear alongside Amanda Seyfried in The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd, a forthcoming prison-break thriller written and directed by Tim Blake Nelson.
Produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Aaron Sorkin, and Stuart Besser, The Social Reckoning is slated for theatrical release on October 9, 2026. With Sorkin’s signature dialogue, a stellar cast, and a timely real-world story at its core, the film is already one of the most anticipated dramas of the decade.
Mosaku is represented by Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA, Scott Marshall Partners, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
