The cause of death for Raymond “Rolling Ray” Harper, a prominent social media influencer, has been confirmed by his family and medical authorities as natural causes. Though his health had been in decline for over a year, his passing on September 3, 2025, came as a shock to many of his followers.

Rolling Ray had openly shared numerous health struggles prior to his death. In 2024, he was hospitalized after developing pneumonia and a serious blood infection. He reported that his breathing had deteriorated rapidly, leading to an emergency room stay and admission to intensive care. At that time, he posted that he had been placed on a breathing tube, describing how his oxygen levels fell sharply and that he struggled to speak. He framed the ordeal as life-threatening and suggested it had left a marked impact on his health trajectory.

His medical history also included other significant setbacks. In 2021 he suffered severe burns in a fire incident and in 2022 he battled COVID-19, which resulted in a period in a medically induced coma. Rolling Ray was diagnosed as a child with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) type 3, a neuromuscular disease that progressively weakens muscles and in his case, confined him to a wheelchair. Despite predictions early on that he would not live past his early teens, he defied expectations and went on to build a large and vocal platform online.

The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner received notice of his death the day it occurred, and the family confirmed that the cause was not due to foul play or external trauma but rather his body’s long battle with chronic health challenges and complications consistent with natural causes. The family’s statement emphasized that Ray’s health had deteriorated gradually after his infection and that his strength had been waning over time.

Rolling Ray’s online presence had increasingly reflected his health challenges in recent months, with fewer public appearances and more private struggles. He had teased that he was “healing” from the 2024 hospitalization and had publicly spoken of how breathing difficulties and infection had pushed him to confront his fragility.
