Comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, known for his stand-up performances across the United States and his television appearances, has died following a fatal shooting in Southaven, Mississippi. He was 52.

According to the Southaven Police Department, officers responded to Burton Lane on Wednesday, August 20, after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, Carroll was found with gunshot wounds. Police and first responders attempted life-saving measures before he was transported to Regional One Health in Memphis, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement released August 23, authorities confirmed, _“One male is in custody and has been charged with the murder of Reginald Carroll. Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Carroll. Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding.”_ Investigators described the case as an isolated incident, though inquiries are ongoing.

Carroll, who grew up in Baltimore, built a decades-spanning career in stand-up. His performances took him to comedy venues across the country, and he also made appearances on television, including a 2000 episode of Showtime at the Apollo_, a role in the sitcom _The Parkers_, and the 2022 film _Rent & Go_. Most recently, in 2023, he created and headlined the stand-up special _Knockout Kings of Comedy_, a project that further cemented his place within Baltimore’s comedy scene.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and fans alike. Carroll frequently toured with Academy Award-winning actress and comedian Mo’Nique, who referred to him as her “brother in comedy.” Sharing her memories on Instagram, she wrote, _“This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again, and the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together… that’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our time together was amazing.”_

His brother, Jonathan Carroll, also addressed the loss in a Facebook post, stating, _“To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received — thank you!!!”_
