In a heartfelt turn of events, Shalon Jackson, the eldest son of Oscar-winning actress and comedian Mo’Nique, has publicly apologized for past comments that strained his relationship with his mother and family. The apology comes after a year-long public feud that began in 2024 when Jackson criticized Mo’Nique in a series of social media posts.
On May 28, 2025, Jackson shared a nearly five-minute video on TikTok, expressing deep remorse for his previous actions. “Making those videos a year ago was a betrayal against our family, and I have to take full accountability for it,” he stated. He acknowledged that his family did not deserve the backlash resulting from his statements and admitted that he should have addressed his concerns privately. “I can’t even blame anybody else for the place I was in mentally — I have to take full responsibility for my actions. And part of that means facing the people I hurt and owning up to the damage I caused.”
Jackson also addressed his mental health during the period of the feud, conceding that his mother and stepfather, Sidney Hicks, were justified in their concerns. “Taking accountability can be hard if I allow it to be. Bottom line: I was wrong, and I shouldn’t have said any of what I said. I should’ve kept my mouth shut and called my mother,” he confessed.
The reconciliation was further solidified by a family gathering over Memorial Day weekend. Mo’Nique shared a photo on Instagram of herself embracing Jackson, captioned, “GRATEFUL!!!! I LOVE US 4REAL!!!”
Jackson expressed gratitude for the patience and grace his family extended to him, particularly highlighting his younger brothers’ role in initiating the reconciliation. “They told me, ‘Mom’s still waiting. All she wants is for you to come home.’ That broke me. And it healed me at the same time,” he said, visibly emotional. He also shared his joy in witnessing Mo’Nique’s involvement in his children’s lives, noting her efforts in making baby food from scratch and baking cookies with his daughter.
