In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the singer and entrepreneur, Rihanna reveals crucial details about her upcoming album. The singer acknowledged the eight – year gap since her last album, emphasizing that she is committed to delivering music that resonates with her and her fans. “I think music is my freedom. I just came to that realization. I just cracked the code in what I really want to do for my next body of work. I am actually feeling really good about this. I know I kept saying this over the years,” she said.
When talking about what fans should expect for her upcoming project, Rihanna confirms that the upcoming album won’t be bound to a specific genre, despite past speculations that it would lean heavily into reggae influences. “ There’s no genre now. That’s why I waited,” she explained. “it wasn’t aligning with my growth or evolution. I couldn’t stand by something that didn’t feel right or perform it for a year on tour.”
Rihanna also emphasized that the album will not cater to commercial trends or radio play. “ I know it’s not going to be anything anybody expects. It’s going to be where my artistry deserves to be right now. I feel like I’ve finally cracked it,” she said.
When asked about her favorite album, the singer claims that she listens to Anti from top to bottom with no shame. “I used to always have shame. I actually don’t like listening to my music, but Anti – I can listen to the album. It’s like it’s not me singing it, it I’m just listening to it. That’s the one album that I can have an out-of-body experience where it’s not like… you know when you hear your voice in a voicemail and it’s like, ‘ugh.’”
The singer emphasized that every decision she makes always revolves around her children, RZA and Riot. She claims that she tries to balance her career and motherhood by figuring out a balance so that she can feel fulfilled when she shows up to do something.
When it comes to her children, the singer described their different personalities, stating that her son RZA is an empath, so magical, loves music and loves water while Riot is hilarious, loves to sing, always her alarm clock in the morning and never takes no for an answer from anyone.
