Dallas Wings star Azzi Fudd has spoken out after her rookie season was cut short by a knee injury.
The 23-year-old guard will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on her right knee after experiencing ongoing soreness. The Wings announced Wednesday, Aug. 19, that Fudd will miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season as she recovers from the procedure.
Shortly after the announcement, Fudd addressed fans through a message shared on her podcast's Instagram account. She confirmed that she has a procedure scheduled and said she already knows what she needs to do next.
"Hey, most of you probably already saw. I've got a small procedure coming up on my knee, and I'll be out as I recover," Fudd said. She added that her focus will now turn to rehabilitation and preparing for her return.
"I know exactly what comes next: rehab, put in the work, come back ready and better than before," she said.
Fudd also expressed gratitude toward the people who have supported her throughout the difficult moment. She thanked her family, close circle and the Wings organization for standing by her as she begins the recovery process.
She also acknowledged the messages she received from fans following news of the injury.
"Thank you for all the messages today. They mean a lot to me," Fudd said.
The Wings said they will provide additional information about Fudd's condition and recovery following the procedure when appropriate.
Fudd last played for Dallas on Aug. 5 against the Washington Mystics. Two days later, she was listed as unavailable because of right knee soreness after experiencing discomfort during warmups. At the time, there was no indication that the problem would ultimately end her rookie season.
The injury comes after an impressive debut campaign for Fudd, who was selected No. 1 overall by the Wings in the 2026 WNBA Draft. Before her injury, she was averaging 31 minutes per game and recorded 13.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
Since Fudd was sidelined, the Wings have struggled to maintain their momentum, winning just one of their last five games.
Fans quickly flooded Fudd's social media post with messages of encouragement after the announcement. Many praised her rookie season and wished her a successful recovery.
Fudd now faces a period of rehabilitation before she can return to competitive basketball. Despite the setback, her message made it clear that she is already focused on the work ahead and determined to return stronger.
