Trinity Rodman was among the loudest supporters cheering on boyfriend Ben Shelton after the American tennis star secured an impressive comeback victory at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open.
Shelton, 23, advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating France's Ugo Humbert in three sets. After dropping the opening set, the American responded with a dominant performance, winning the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4 to book a place in the last eight. He is now set to face Chile's Alejandro Tabilo in the quarterfinals.
Rodman, 24, watched the match from the stands and celebrated enthusiastically when Shelton sealed the winning point. A video shared by the tournament captured the Washington Spirit forward jumping to her feet in celebration before performing Shelton's famous "hang up the phone" gesture alongside another spectator. The signature celebration has become closely associated with the rising American tennis star and was once again on display after another memorable victory.
Shelton first introduced the celebration during the 2023 US Open after defeating fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. The gesture quickly gained attention across the tennis world, with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic even recreating it after beating Shelton in the tournament's semifinals. Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios also praised the celebration, saying Shelton's personality brings excitement to the sport and will help grow the game.
Rodman has become a familiar face at Shelton's matches as the couple continues to support one another's careers. Shelton has also attended several Washington Spirit matches to cheer on the United States international, highlighting the strong support they have shown for each other despite their demanding professional schedules.
Earlier this year, Shelton publicly credited Rodman for bringing him good fortune after winning the Stuttgart Open. Speaking during the trophy presentation, he thanked her for traveling from Brazil to watch him compete and jokingly referred to her as his "good luck charm," noting that he had won every tournament she attended that season.
Rodman also shared the effort she made to attend Shelton's latest match. After helping the Washington Spirit secure a victory in Utah, she posted a TikTok showing herself rushing to make it back in time for the DC Open. She humorously captioned the video, "When you're a pro athlete but also trynna be a wag," giving fans a lighthearted glimpse into balancing her own football career while supporting Shelton from the stands.
