Weeks after Tanzanian authorities concluded their investigation into the tragic passing of 31-year-old American social media influencer Ashlee Jenae, her fiancé has broken his silence. Joe McCann, a crypto hedge fund founder, released a detailed public statement alleging that his late fiancée, whose real name was Ashly Robinson, had “quickly spiraled” and repeatedly threatened suicide in the weeks leading up to her April 2026 death, a shift he claims was triggered by devastating medical news regarding her fertility.
According to statements provided by McCann to media outlets on June 15, 2026, the downward trajectory began following a medical consultation in March 2026. McCann stated that a doctor informed Robinson there was a high likelihood she would struggle to carry a child to term. The news deeply impacted the fashion and lifestyle influencer, who reportedly expressed immense fear that she would be unable to start a family and that her partner would eventually leave her because of it.
McCann alleged that Robinson’s behavior became drastically altered during a snowboarding trip to Oregon later that month. He claimed she began experiencing severe panic attacks and public outbursts that were entirely uncharacteristic of her. During that trip, McCann alleged that Robinson attempted to open a car door while they were traveling at high speed on a rural highway, and later walked into oncoming traffic following a subsequent disagreement. McCann stated that the erratic behavior was directly tied to her ongoing emotional distress regarding her fertility struggles.
The couple subsequently traveled to Zanzibar, Tanzania, in April for a scheduled birthday vacation, where Robinson initially shared a video documenting McCann proposing to her on a safari. However, the trip took a devastating turn days later. Tanzanian police officials recently confirmed that following a heated argument at their luxury resort, the couple was separated into different rooms by hotel staff. The following day, a hotel employee found Robinson unconscious inside her villa’s wardrobe. She was rushed to a local medical facility, where she passed away on April 9, 2026. Local authorities officially closed the investigation in June, ruling her cause of death as a suicide caused by strangulation.
Robinson’s family, who previously described her as a “beacon of light,” have publicly rejected the suicide ruling, heavily questioning the circumstances surrounding her final hours. While McCann maintains that he deeply consoled and reassured her of his lifelong commitment prior to the trip, the starkly contrasting narratives between the fiancé’s account and the family’s doubts continue to cast a somber shadow over the influencer’s sudden passing.
