Multi-platinum R&B superstar Christopher Maurice Brown, known globally as Chris Brown, has officially added a new title to his resume. The 37-year-old singer, dancer, and visual artist was awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Visual & Performing Arts from Harvest Christian University, a private, faith-based institution headquartered in Dallas, Texas.

Brown celebrated the academic milestone by sharing photos on social media from the private ceremony, showing himself dressed in full ceremonial academic regalia while proudly holding his diploma. He captioned the viral Instagram post , “I DID A THING!” The recognition quickly drew widespread celebration from fans and high-profile peers alike, with industry heavyweights like Metro Boomin and Busta Rhymes rushing to congratulate “Dr. Breezy.”

According to an official statement released on the university’s website, the honorary doctorate was conferred to celebrate Brown’s nearly two decades of commercial success and profound artistic footprint. The institution highlighted his “global artistic achievement, cultural influence, entertainment excellence, creative innovation, and sustained contribution to music, performance, and the creative arts industry.” Notably, the university added that its mission aligns with “the principles of redemption, grace, restoration, compassion, and recognizing the full complexity of the human journey.”

First breaking onto the music scene in 2005 with his self-titled debut album and the smash hit “Run It!,” Brown has built one of the most prolific catalogs in contemporary music. His latest project, Brown, recently secured his 13th top-ten album by debuting at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart. Beyond his vocal abilities, Brown is widely regarded as one of the definitive live performers and choreographers of his generation, heavily influencing the aesthetics of modern pop and R&B stage production.

While the announcement sparked some online debate regarding the university’s accreditation and its history of issuing honorary titles to prominent entertainment figures including Cedric the Entertainer and T.I., the school maintains that the degrees are designed to acknowledge a lifetime body of work already lived with distinction outside the traditional classroom.

The honorary milestone comes during a remarkably busy period for the artist. Brown is currently finalizing major rehearsals to co-headline the highly anticipated “The R&B Tour” alongside Usher, which is scheduled to kick off across North America at the end of June.
