Lamine Yamal suffered an apparent injury while converting the penalty that secured a narrow win for FC Barcelona against Celta Vigo, a result that pushed the Catalan side nine points clear at the top of La Liga.

The 18-year-old stepped up in the 40th minute at Camp Nou after weavinginto the box and being fouled by Yoel Lago. He calmly placed his shot
past goalkeeper Ionut Radu, but immediately after scoring, he signalled toward the bench and went down holding his left hamstring.

Medical staff quickly attended to him, and he was unable to continue. Yamal left the pitch with assistance and went straight down the tunnel, with Roony Bardghji coming on as his replacement. The incident has raised concerns for both club and country, especially with less than 50 days remaining before the World Cup begins.

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick said after the match that the extent of the injury is still unclear. He noted that Yamal would not have asked to be substituted without good reason, expressing hope that the issue is not serious.

The victory brings Barcelona closer to defending their league title, with six matches still to play. Maintaining their lead will be crucial in the coming weeks, particularly as they prepare for a high-stakes clash against second-placed Real Madrid next month.

Yamal has been a standout performer this season, contributing 16 goals and 11 assists in La Liga. His rapid rise has also been evident on the international stage, where he was named Young Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024 after helping Spain national football team lift the trophy.

Teammate Pedri expressed hope that the injury will not keep Yamal out for long. He said the player will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the issue and encouraged him to remain calm, noting that his age and resilience should aid his recovery.

Barcelona will now await medical updates, with the club and fans hoping their young star can return quickly as the season approaches its decisive stage.
