Did anyone expect Teyana Taylor to do anything but shut down the red carpet
Known for her fearless fashion sense, the multihyphenate star is already preparing a standout look for the 2026 Oscars, where she is nominated for Best Actress for the first time. While attending the EA Sports Madden Bowl ahead of the Super Bowl, Taylor spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about her plans for Hollywood’s biggest night and made it clear that her outfit is top of mind.
“I might not be thinking about a speech, but I am absolutely thinking about a fit,” Taylor said with a laugh. “I will throw a fit on that carpet.” Though she stayed tight-lipped about specific details, she encouraged fans to stay tuned until Oscar night on March 15. One thing she did confirm was her confidence in the final result, assuring that whatever she wears will be worth the wait.
Taylor stars as Perfidia in One Battle After Another, the Paul Thomas Anderson directed film that earned 13 Academy Award nominations this year. Hamnet followed closely behind with eight nominations, while Sinners led the field with a record breaking 16 nominations, the most ever for a single film.
Despite the excitement surrounding her nomination, Taylor shared that she is deliberately avoiding thoughts of an acceptance speech. She explained that she wants to remain grounded and present rather than getting caught up in expectations.
“I’m not thinking about my speech at all,” she said. “I’m pacing myself. I don’t want to jinx anything. I’m just enjoying this moment, having fun, and staying centered. That’s really important to me.”
The actress emphasized that the recognition itself already feels like a win. She spoke candidly about how meaningful it is to be acknowledged alongside women she deeply admires, noting that the nomination represents respect and support from her peers.
“I’ve got so much more work to do,” Taylor added. “Win or lose, this moment feels amazing. I feel like I already won spiritually and mentally just by being part of the conversation.”
For Taylor, this season is less about trophies and more about appreciation. Being seen, celebrated, and honored holds lasting value for her, especially when that recognition comes from fellow artists.
The 2026 Academy Awards will be hosted by Conan O’Brien and air live on Sunday, March 15, at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, with streaming available on Hulu. One thing is certain. When Taylor steps onto that carpet, all eyes will be on her.
