R&B singer and entrepreneur Ray J was reportedly rushed to a Las Vegas hospital following a health scare. The 44-year-old artist, born William Ray Norwood Jr., was admitted after experiencing sudden breathing difficulties and intense “heart pains.” According to reports from TMZ and other major outlets, medical professionals have since diagnosed him with a severe case of pneumonia.

As of January 8, Ray J remains under close medical supervision. Sources close to the singer indicate that he has undergone a series of diagnostic procedures, including chest X-rays to assess the state of his lungs and an echocardiogram to evaluate his heart function. While the initial symptoms of chest discomfort raised immediate concerns regarding a cardiac event, doctors determined that the strain from the respiratory infection was the likely primary cause of the pain.

The timing of this hospitalization is particularly significant, as it occurs just over four years after a near-fatal battle with the same illness. In October 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ray J was hospitalized in Miami with non-COVID pneumonia that left him struggling for breath and placed on supplemental oxygen. During that period, the singer spoke candidly about his mortality, admitting to fans that he “feared for his life” and spent his hospital stay praying for a second chance.

The current health scare follows a turbulent few months for the “One Wish” singer. In late 2025, Ray J was embroiled in various legal disputes, including a defamation lawsuit filed by Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. Just weeks prior to his Las Vegas admission, he had also shared a concerning update with fans regarding a “hitchhiking” project, expressing exhaustion and a desperate desire to return home to his children.

While no official statement has been released by Ray J’s representatives, the singer appeared active on social media shortly after his admission, promoting a birthday event scheduled for later in the month. Fans and peers across the music industry have flooded his comments with well-wishes, hoping for a swift recovery. For Ray J, this second encounter with severe pneumonia serves as a stark reminder of the long-term vulnerability of his respiratory health, especially as he continues to balance a demanding and high-stress professional schedule.
