Former Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide actor Tylor Chase is receiving assistance from friends and former castmates after videos showing him living unhoused in California circulated online, prompting concern from fans of the Nickelodeon series.
Daniel Curtis Lee, who starred alongside Chase on the show, shared updates about the situation in a series of Instagram videos posted in late December. Lee said he has been in intermittent contact with Chase, noting that communication has been difficult. "He'll have a phone one day and then maybe not the next," Lee explained, adding that he recently connected Chase with his father through FaceTime.
Lee documented spending time with Chase, including sharing a meal and helping him secure a hotel room amid heavy rain and limited availability. In one clip filmed inside the room, Lee reassured his former costar, telling him, "I believe in you, and we're gonna win, bro. All we got to do is stay with it and keep working."
According to Lee, Chase's mother has cautioned that providing direct financial support could be "dangerous," stressing that treatment is necessary. Lee said he has been exploring safer, structured ways for people to help, including the possibility of setting up a trust and identifying appropriate rehabilitation programs. "If it's real love and genuine love and support," he said, "I really think we can get him back on his feet."
Other former child actors have also become involved. Shaun Weiss, known for his role in The Mighty Ducks films, shared that he and his team had secured a bed for Chase at a detox facility, with plans for longer-term treatment afterward. "I reached out to some friends of mine and we have a bed for him at a detox and we have a place for him to go and get long-term treatment," Weiss said in an Instagram video.
However, Lee later revealed that Chase ultimately declined to enter treatment at that time. "It turns out he kind of backed out," Lee said, explaining that they were unable to get Chase into a car to reach the hospital. Despite this, Lee ensured Chase had temporary shelter, saying his priority was providing "at least some basic accommodations" during the holiday season.
Chase portrayed recurring character Martin Qwerly on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, which aired from 2004 to 2007 and starred Devon Werkheiser and Lindsey Shaw. The trio, along with Lee, have continued to engage with fans through a podcast focused on the show. Earlier this year, Werkheiser and Shaw acknowledged the circulating videos and said they were working to understand how best to help their former castmate.
