Atlanta rapper Young Thug, legally known as Jeffery Lamar Williams, stunned fans by proposing to his longtime girlfriend, R&B singer Mariah The Scientist. The momentous occasion took place during his “Hometown Hero: Young Thug & Friends” benefit concert at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The event marked Thug’s first major performance in his home city since his release from jail in late 2024, adding an extra layer of emotional significance to the night.
In the middle of his high-energy set, the 34-year-old rapper paused the music as the massive LED screen behind him lit up with the glowing words, “Will You Marry Me?” Footage captured by fans and shared widely on social media shows Thug dropping to one knee and presenting a blue jewelry box containing a large diamond ring. Amidst a roar of cheers from the sold-out crowd, he asked, “What you say, baby?” A visibly emotional Mariah responded with a joyful laugh, shouting, “Put it on!” and later telling the audience, “I guess I’m getting married!”
The engagement serves as a milestone for the couple, who have been romantically linked since 2021. Their relationship has been famously resilient, that is, Mariah remained a steadfast supporter of the rapper throughout his high-profile RICO legal battle, which saw him incarcerated from May 2022 until October 2024. During his time behind bars, she was a constant presence in the courtroom and frequently spoke out in his defense. Despite brief rumors of a split following his release, the couple reconciled and has been seen together at numerous public events throughout 2025.
The proposal also appears to be a direct fulfillment of Mariah’s recent wishes. Just days earlier, during an interview with Angie Martinez, the 28 year-old singer expressed her strong desire for marriage and stability. She told Martinez that she wanted a “commitment that doesn’t involve an obligation to a baby,” emphasizing that she wanted to be a wife before becoming a mother. Thug’s public gesture at the benefit concert, which served to fulfill a community service requirement of his 15-year probation, solidifies a new chapter for the couple as they move past the legal shadows of the previous years.
