Atlanta-based rapper B.o.B (born Bobby Ray Simmons Jr.) is facing serious legal allegations after a woman who said his music supported her through cancer treatment accused him of sexual assault. The lawsuit, filed in California, states that in April 2025 the plaintiff, identified only as “Jane” in court documents, traveled from Texas to attend B.o.B’s performance at the California Beer Festival in San Diego.
According to the complaint, the woman is a cancer survivor who said that during her treatment in 2016 she listened to B.o.B’s songs, including tracks from his 2010 album The Adventures of Bobby Ray, and that his music gave her emotional strength to keep going. With her diagnosis behind her and cancer-free, she said she set out to see the rapper live as a form of celebration and healing.
After the show, the lawsuit alleges, B.o.B invited the woman on-stage to dance, and later his manager invited her and her cousin to an after-party at a hotel suite in downtown San Diego. The woman claims the cousin left the suite to retrieve a jacket from their vehicle, leaving her alone with B.o.B. It is then that the complaint states he grabbed her neck, groped her waist and thighs, kissed her without consent and ordered his wife to leave the room so he could continue. The assault allegedly ceased only when a knock at the door interrupted the encounter and the woman fled to the lobby and reunited with her cousin.
The woman’s legal filing also alleges that members of B.o.B’s management team were aware of his “intentions to gain sexual favors” and failed to intervene. She is seeking civil damages for sexual assault and emotional distress. B.o.B has not issued a public response at this time.
This case adds a dramatic and troubling chapter to his career. B.o.B first rose to commercial prominence with hit singles like “Nothin’ on You” and “Airplanes,” and has maintained a loyal fan base yet, the lawsuit’s details reference a stark contrast.
Since the case is still at its early stage and no criminal charges have yet been announced publicly, the civil filing may also prompt further investigation. For the rapper, defending against claims of this nature can carry significant reputational and financial risk. For the plaintiff, this filing represents an attempt to hold a high-profile artist accountable.
