Sterling K. Brown has revealed that he is postponing surgery for a torn Achilles tendon so that he can attend the upcoming Emmy Awards alongside his Paradise co-stars.

The 49-year-old actor shared the update on Tuesday, September 9, through a video on Instagram. Speaking directly to fans, Brown began, "It's ya boy SKB, coming to you right now because I know I'm gonna have to have this conversation a bunch of times with a bunch of people. So hopefully, this will sort of condense the number of times that I'll have to share some unfortunate news."

Brown recalled that the injury happened while he was being "athletic," though not during anything "super dangerous." After taking what seemed like a simple step, he said it "felt like somebody stomped on the back of my heel." Initially, he thought someone had collided with him and even demanded an apology, only to realize that no one had been nearby.

With surgery required to repair the damage, Brown made it clear he intends to delay the procedure until after the Emmy Awards. "So, I gotta have surgery," he explained, before adding, "Gonna do it after the Emmys so I can motivate myself and go and try to celebrate with my cast and the producers of Paradise because we got recognized."

In Paradise, Brown plays Agent Xavier Collins in a political drama centred on a seemingly peaceful community that is disrupted by a shocking murder and subsequent investigation. The series, streaming on Hulu, has earned four nominations at this year's Emmys: Brown for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Julianne Nicholson for Outstanding Supporting Actress, James Marsden for Outstanding Supporting Actor, and the show itself for Outstanding Drama Series.

While speaking from bed, the actor mentioned he was spending his recovery time watching football and reading, "doing everything to keep my spirits up."
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on CBS and Paramount+ live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14.
