Rapper Kid Cudi, born Scott Mescudi, has opened up about his experience testifying in Sean “Diddy” Combs’s high-profile federal trial describing it as a legally mandated ordeal, yet emotionally driven by loyalty and care for his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Cudi revealed he “hated every minute” of taking the stand, but ultimately found peace in the knowledge that he was there to support Ventura.
Cudi recounted how he initially declined two separate requests to testify. It was only after being subpoenaed that he reluctantly agreed to appear in court. “I was just there because I had to be,” he admitted during the interview. Still, what helped him endure the stressful process was his unwavering desire to stand by Cassie. “I’m here to support Cassie,” he said, emphasizing that as a friend, he wanted to ensure she wasn’t alone during a harrowing chapter in her life.
During his testimony, Cudi detailed several disturbing incidents that stemmed from his brief 2011 relationship with Ventura who had been dating Combs on and off. He described an alleged break-in at his home, where Diddy confronted him after learning about their relationship. Inside, Cudi discovered his dog locked in a bathroom and gifts opened and scattered throughout the house. Weeks later, his luxury Porsche was destroyed in what he believed was a deliberate act of arson involving a Molotov cocktail.
Though these recollections were difficult to recount, Cudi said the thought of Cassie, who endured years of abuse, as she later testified, helped him find clarity amid the chaos. He shared how proud he felt for her now: seeing her married and thriving as a mother softened the blow of his courtroom ordeal. “I love her, I want to see her do well,” he said.
Cudi’s testimony contributed to a broader pattern of evidence presented against Combs, including allegations of controlling behavior and physical abuse. While Combs was ultimately convicted on two counts related to the transportation of individuals for prostitution, he was acquitted on sex-trafficking and racketeering charges. He now faces sentencing.
