Chris Brown has been released on bail after being charged with grievous bodily harm with intent in connection to an alleged assault in London. The 36-year-old American R&B singer is accused of attacking music producer Abraham Diaw at Tape nightclub in Hanover Square, Mayfair, on February 19, 2023.

According to court proceedings, Brown allegedly struck Diaw “several times” with a bottle, pursued him across the club, and then punched and kicked him. Another man, Omolulu Akinlolu, 38, a US national, was also charged in connection with the incident. Both face charges under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
 

Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Adele Kelly confirmed: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm.” She added, “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”

Brown was arrested at Manchester’s five-star Lowry Hotel shortly after 2am on Thursday, May 15, after flying into the UK on a private jet to begin the UK leg of his Breezy Bowl XX world tour. Initially denied bail by Manchester Magistrates’ Court, he was remanded in custody until a subsequent hearing at Southwark Crown Court on May 21.
 

Judge Tony Baumgartner approved Brown’s release under strict conditions, including a £5 million bail security. The amount includes £4 million already posted and an additional £1 million to be paid within a week. The conditions stipulate that Brown must reside at a UK address, surrender his passport to British authorities, and refrain from contacting Diaw, Akinlolu, or visiting Tape nightclub.

Despite the charges, Brown has been granted special provisions to continue his Breezy Bowl XX tour, which includes dates across Europe, he UK, and North America. His passport will be temporarily released toallow travel, held by his legal representatives in each region.
 

The singer, known for hits such as “Go Crazy” and “Under The Influence,” is set to perform in Manchester on June 15, 16, and 24,with other shows in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Cardiff. He will be joined by Bryson Tiller on all tour dates, and Summer Walker on North American legs.
 

Brown is scheduled to appear at Southwark Crown Court for a plea hearing on June 20.
