Janet Jackson continues to shine as a legendary figure in the music industry — and her upcoming recognition makes that status even clearer.
 
On Tuesday, May 13, CBS and Dick Clark Productions revealed that the five-time Grammy Award winner will be honored with the ICON Award duringthe 2025 American Music Awards, describing her as “one of the most influential entertainers of our time.”

“Thank you so much, AMAs!! It’s an honor. We look forward to being on your stage again. See you in Vegas! ” the 58-year-old singer shared on Instagram.

The ICON Award is reserved for artists whose contributions have left a lasting impact on music and global culture. Previous recipients include Rihanna in 2013 and Lionel Richie in 2022.

In addition to receiving the award, Jackson — who has won 11 American Music Awards throughout her career — is set to deliver a live performance during the event in Las Vegas on Monday, May 26. This will mark her first televised performance since 2018.

As she returns to the AMA stage, Jackson will also continue her Las Vegas residency, JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS, with six scheduled shows at Resorts World from May 21 through May 31.

This year’s AMAs, marking its 50th edition, will be hosted once again by Jennifer Lopez, who previously emceed the event in 2025. In an April statement, Jay Penske, CEO of Dick Clark Productions, said, “We’re excited to welcome Jennifer Lopez back to host the American Music Awards. Her extraordinary talent and magnetic presence make her the perfect host to kick off summer in style.”

Lopez, 55, will also hit the stage with a performance of her own. Moreartists are expected to be announced in the coming days, joining Lopez and Jackson on the star-studded lineup.

Leading the nominations this year is Kendrick Lamar with 10 nods. Other top contenders include Post Malone with eight nominations, while Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey each earned seven.
